Bio

Mike began his involvement in Texas BMX as the owner of Wheel World in Lufkin, Texas. Shortly afterwards, with help from Gene Roden, he built one of the first tracks in the state of Texas behind the Lufkin mall where Wheel World was located. In 1979, this track hosted an ABA National event.

He later worked for the American Bicycle Association in Chandler, Arizona, where among other things, designed a new look logo for the association. He even drew a cartoon character known as” Buford Big Wheel” in the first Texas BMX magazine and co-designed the current Texas BMX Hall of Fame logo with his son Zach Maberry.

Later, Mike became a manufacturer with partner David Gersten to produce the BLAZER frame, which was not only the first BMX frame to come out of
Texas, but was also the lightest produced for over two years.  During this time, Mike sponsored the BLAZER Factory Team, which to date has produced three Texas BMX Hall of Famers. In 1981, Mike co-sponsored the BLAZER/REBEL Texas Tour alongside his good friend Bernie Anderson.

More than thirty years later, Mike re-entered the Texas BMX scene by becoming a founding member of Texas BMX Hall of Fame board of directors where he served as vice-president of the organization for two years.
